Elizabeth Man Charged In Series Of Cranford Vehicle Burglaries

A 30-year-old from Elizabeth has been charged with burglarizing commercial vehicles in Cranford and making off with tools worth thousands of dollars, the Union County Prosecutor's Office and Cranford police said in a joint statement Friday.

Steven Cuartas is accused in a two-day spree of burglaries on Nov. 14 and 15 of vehicles parked on Bloomingdale Avenue, North Avenue, the 500 block of Claremont Place and the intersection of Claremont and Casino Avenue and at Pacific Avenue and Locust Drive. All told, the stolen items had an estimated value of more than $4,300. 

Roselle Park and Union police helped identify Cuartas as a suspect before his arrest Wednesday outside his home. Tools believed to have been stolen were found in his vehicle, authorities said. 

He was being held at the Union County jail.
